Stonemasonry Dust Collection Solution

Last week we commissioned a Grydale® JMS 60 F-Series dust collector for our prestigious stone masonry client in NSW, along with intelligent work booths that will allow more efficient stone cutting (including dry sawing) to take place within the workshop, significantly increasing operational efficiencies.

The JMS 60 F-Series dust collector is located outside the building and is connected to the six single/three double work booths via steel ducting. The ground mounted centrifugal fan pulls the dirty air through the plenum at the back of each booth, via the ducting back to the dust collector. Heavy dust particles are collected and discharged to bulker bags while clean air is exhausted outside.

The intelligent work booths feature sophisticated CANbus control and monitoring software and allow workers to control the work booths (and dust collector) from within the working area. The Variable Speed Drive (VSD) on the dust collector turns up / down the dust collector depending on the number of booths in operation at any one time.

The work booths were designed in consultation with workers onsite to provide a positive and safe working environment. Lighting was designed to remove shadows from the working area to allow detailed cutting operations to take place. Windows were installed so workers don’t feel isolated and to provide full visibility of operations for increased safety. A retractable roof allows stones to be placed efficiently and safely onto the turntables using the new gantry crane. Doors can also be retracted to allow full access for areas to be washed down.

Onsite commissioning included air monitoring, outside of the work booths by an Occupational Hygienist to ensure dust particles were contained to protect the health and safety of workers and maintain compliance with regulatory controls.

Our dust collection solution was commissioned as part of a significant civil works facility upgrade programme and included the design, manufacture and installation of a JMS 60 F-Series dust collector, three double/six single intelligent work booths and an additional JMS 16 F-Series dust collector to replace old/inefficient dust collectors working on site. We sized the JMS 60 F-Series dust collector with additional capacity for two single/one double work booths if required in the future.

A huge thank you to our engineering, production and installation team, with significant mention to Thomas Ioramo, Jamie Baskett Timothy Hill and monique lepri.
